Summary

In this community outreach internship you will build your resume while gaining first-hand knowledge of how the nation's largest non-profit organization works, develops and conveys its message to 38 million members across the United States. This internship will begin in May, 2019 and extend through the remainder of the year.This internship includes, but is not limited to, volunteer management, program development and design, the coordination of events and volunteers, and organizational communication. Interns must be able to work 25 hours per week.


Responsibilities

The intern will assist in several ongoing projects/tasks, which include but are not limited to:

  • Researching, collecting, compiling and organizing information into a user-friendly reference guide;
  • Customizing and tailoring informational and promotional literature such as one-pagers, brochures, position papers, and newsletters;
  • Performing legislative tracking, and summarizing legislative activity into reports and articles;
  • Assisting with meeting planning and logistics, and;
  • Supporting volunteer management.

Requirements

Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; be in good academic standing; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors . AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.

Additional requirements:

Must possess strong organizational, time management, writing, and computer skills; the ability to plan and juggle multiple projects at once and meet deadlines; demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Familiarty with social /digital media platforms is required; HTML skills a plus.
