Working in conjunction with the Emergency Department Chief of Staff, Emergency Department Nurse Manager, Trauma Director, responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for the multidisciplinary approach throughout the continuum of care. This role is structured to facilitate interaction with all units and disciplines involved with trauma care. Uses critical thinking to integrate objective data gained through assessment of patient needs, identifies an appropriate nursing plan of care to promote best patient outcomes, and delivers personalized nursing care during episodes of acute and chronic health care needs. Facilitates care delivery through interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians, other healthcare professionals, hospital staff and community agencies. Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills; well developed assessment, evaluation, planning and care implementation; organizational and delegation skills; commitment to safe and effective patient care delivery using research and best practice standards to provide high quality patient services; and commitment to professional growth and development.
Associates Degree in Nursing - Minimum, Bachelors Degree Preferred. RN License / certified in the State of Oregon current and active at date of hire. BLS - Basic Life Skills Certificate - Required before Date of Hire. ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support - Certification is required to obtain within 6 (six) months of hire. PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - Certification is required to obtain within 6 (six) months of hire. TNCC/Team - Trauma Nursing Core Course - Certification is encouraged to obtain within 6 (six) months of hire based on availability of classes. RN positions in Emergency prefer a minimum of 5 (five) years current acute care experience in an Emergency Department. Emergency Department RN positions may be considered training positions for those RN's without specialty unit experience and may include Graduate Nurse Candidates. Specialty Unit RN Training Positions will be determined by the Patient Care Manager prior to posting based on existing trained/experienced staff compliment, training needs to develop safe practice in the unit and resources available to meet staffing needs during the training period.

Functions as Trauma Nurse Specialist by acting as: trauma patient case consultant, collaborator, with interdisciplinary teams and consultant for local/regional/statewide trauma care providers. Organizes and facilitates bi-monthly multidisciplinary trauma meetings. Responsible for the collection, and entry of information into the Trauma Registry within 90 days of injury. Uses the Nursing Process in Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation of patient care demonstrated by:

Medication Administration Effectiveness demonstrated by:
Following established safe medication administration policies.
Consistently uses the "Read Back Verbal Order" documentation for all verbal/telephonic orders received
Completes information gathering, reconciliation process, physician notification and discharge instructions required in the medication reconciliation process
Provides verbal and written information to patients regarding new medication's actions and side effects, and assures patient is educated on discharge medications.
Completes narcotic counts and periodic narcotic audits per policy.
Resolves 100% of Pixis end of shift discrepancies prior to leaving the nursing unit

Accurately completes shift report per unit guidelines including documentation of staff work assignments, etc.
