Cultural Elective Instructor will provide instruction in a variety of cultural elective topics not limited to, but inclusive of the following topics: Drama, Creative Writing, Current Events, Psychology, Sociology, Debate, Communications, Etiquette, Art, Dance, Chess, Karate, Yoga, Mentoring, etc. Will hire individual candidates for each subject, or a candidate qualified to teach multiple subjects.
Plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive instructional program for students enrolled in the Upward Bound Program. Conduct an integrated Cultural Elective class on various topics, ranging from but not limited to: Drama, Creative Writing, Current Events, Psychology, Sociology, Debate, Communications, Etiquette, Art, Dance, Chess, Karate, Yoga, Mentoring, etc., teach students learning strategies, conduct teaching and instructional activities using educational equipment, manipulative objects, props and other learning aids, prepare and submit a course outline prior to the start of the class, assist with the planning, instruction and evaluation of tutoring and problem solving activities, complete paperwork associated with classroom and project management, make recommendations on students' strength and needs, report student learning and behavioral issues to the appropriate staff personnel, and assist with the training and evaluation of Teacher Assistants.
Instructors are required to attend training and meetings. In the event of an absence please provide 24 hour notice. Classroom work must be prepared for students and the TA must be prepared to deliver work or conduct an activity to students in the absence of an instructor.
Transport students from one class location to another in a timely manner, ensuring proper supervision and safety of students.
Candidate should posses a high level of integrity, have experience working with minority students populations. Must be organized and assertive.
Two or more years of teaching experience at the high school or post-secondary level, complete a background clearance check, ability to plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive instructional tutoring program for students enrolled in the Educational Talent Search Program, undergraduate or graduate degree in designated discipline, experience working with minority and disadvantaged students at the middle school, high school or post-secondary level.
