AM Shift. 1.0 Position. POSITION SUMMARY Under general supervision the Monitor Tech is responsible for monitoring and interpreting telemetry rhythms, notifying RN of any rhythm changes (in a timely manner). Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors consistent with hospital policies including confidentiality of employee and patient information. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Telemetry Monitoring Skills 1. Responsible for the continual monitoring of telemetry patients. Working knowledge of the telemetry monitoring equipment/systems Ability to change paper 2. Performs the following functions accurately: Identified P, QRS, and T waves; recognizes abnormalities when present Identifies St segments: normal, elevated, and depressed Measures PR, QRS, QT, R-R &P-P intervals; recognizes abnormalities when present Measures PR, QRS, QT, and R-R & P-P internals; recognizes abnormalities when present Identifies atria, functional, ventricular, pacemaker rhythms and blocks Quickly recognizes lethal or potentially lethal rhythms Notifies RN immediately if a lethal or potentially lethal dysrhythmia/abnormality is seen. Enters or discharge patient to telemetry systems Documents all new entries and discharges Documents all new entries and discharges Prepare telemetry unit, lead wire and electrodes for application Applies electrodes and telemetry unit, when not working as a monitor tech (i.e. works as a nursing assistant): -Skin preparation -Electrode check -Lead placement check Identifies possible artifact or lead failure and communicates this to RN Collects and document rhythm strips every shift, and whenever there is a change in rhythm or heart rate; RN to initial strips every shift, and whenever there is a change in rhythms or heart rate; RN to initial strips prior to placement in chart 3. Orients new employees to telemetry monitor systems, as needed. Professional Behavior 1. Required Qualification: QUALIFICATIONS *License/Certification Current BCLS required *Proof of all required License(s) and Certification(s) due at time of hire. **Education High school graduate or equivalent preferred **Proof of all required educational levels due at time of hire. Experience One-year hospital experience as a Unit Assistant or a graduate of a secretarial program or medical Assisting program, preferred. Skills Demonstrates written and verbal competency in the English language. Knowledge of medical terminology desirable. Good computer entry and typing skills. Ability to organize and prioritize changing workloads. Employee must demonstrate basic computer skills Physical Requirements The duties as described will require frequent standing and walking. The employee will occasionally bend/stoop, squat, reach above the shoulders, twist and turn, kneel, and push/pull. The employee may occasionally be required to lift up to 50 pounds. The UA may occasionally perform CPR, push respirators, and cylinder carts, and help position patients in bed. Visual ability: Near acuity; 8 to 16, Mid-focal acuity: 16 to 3, Far visual acuity; 20 and greater. Must utilize conversational speech for effective verbal communication. Noise level is high in some patient care areas. Must be able to hear equipment alarms, overhead pages, and direct verbal communication. Hazards Will have close contact with patients and is likely to come in contact with blood and body fluids. Often exposed to infection. Will be fit tested for particulate respirator.
