Job Description

Children's Home & Aid is pleased to provide students from accredited universities or colleges with the opportunity to apply their theoretical learning within a practical setting. We aim to offer deeply meaningful and individualized learning experiences to increase the knowledge and competence of those entering the early childhood education and social service fields. The Mitzi Freidheim Englewood Child & Family Center is NAEYC accredited and an ExceleRate Gold Circle of Quality center.

Early Childhood Teacher interns learn to assess children's development, create individualized learning plans and help children, 6 weeks to 5 years old, advance in all areas of development. Each intern shadows and assists the highly qualified teaching staff in a specific classroom, gaining experience and skills in assessment, teaching and classroom management. The Early Childhood Teacher internship is appropriate for students pursuing an internship/practicum experience for college credit towards an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.

Learning Opportunities:

  • Learn to assess children's development and document developmental progress.
  • Gain experience by assisting teachers to plan and conduct individual and small group learning activities that target the developmental needs of the children in the classroom.
  • Learn and practice classroom management skills.
  • Shadow teachers to learn the responsibilities of managing a classroom, including maintaining a safe environment.
  • Gain experience assisting in the collection of information for the children's portfolios.
  • Assist teachers with the daily schedule, including meals, snacks, naptime, and learning activities.
  • Learn the center's philosophy and classroom operations.
  • Learn about the history and services of Children's Home & Aid in an orientation to the agency.
  • Participate in regular supervision with assigned supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing one of the following degrees from an accredited college or university:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
  • Currently pursuing credit through an academic or other formalized educational program.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic organizational and time management skills.

Additional Details:

  • Pass a fingerprinting background check including CANTS and LEADS.
  • A current health screen and TB test is required.
  • Children's Home & Aid does not provide compensation to interns
