Job Description

This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, installing, operating and repairing wiring systems, equipment and related electrical apparatus.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, operate, maintain and repair wiring systems, equipment and related apparatus.
  • Read and follow blueprints and sketch circuits;
  • Performs preventative maintenance on wiring systems and equipment.
  • Maintains simple records, prepares simple reports, and performs a variety of manual tasks, as required.
  • Change assorted lamps, ballasts, junction boxes, light switches, receptacles, and required fixtures;
  • Install PVC-conduit and EMT-conduit;
  • Change and repair AC motors, pumps, fans, coils, electric stoves, heaters and water heaters;
  • Operate a variety of electrical testing equipment to locate and determine type of electrical malfunctions;
  • Designs and installs electrical systems for various remodeling projects;
  • Ability to identify different types of voltage (i.e. 220, 208, 120, 277, 408);
  • Need to be able to make load calculations for circuits;
  • Identify the difference between 3 Phase and Single Phase;
  • Knowledge in the installation of large commercial electrical services, tap cans and transformers;
  • Interprets blueprints; works from sketches or verbal instructions;
  • Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments;
  • Advanced knowledge of VFD's (Variable Frequency Drives) used for motors;
  • Working knowledge of the current National Electrical Code, all State and local codes is required;
  • Maintains regular attendance;
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • EDUCATION: High school graduate or GED
  • EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years paid experience as an electrician, minimum 3 years in commercial capacity.
Preferred Qualifications Special Conditions for Eligibility
  • Must hold a valid journeyman Electrician Certification (EE-98J or EE-1J) accepted by the New Mexico Construction Industries Division;
  • Must be willing to work under potentially dangerous circumstances, which may involve exposure to hazardous materials;
  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, odd hours, and emergency calls
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment;
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade;
  • Ability to read commercial electrical blueprints and apply NEC through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work;
  • Ability to understand and comply with all applicable safety procedures;
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
  • Ability to make decisions regarding equipment and material to be used;
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions;
  • Ability to follow all applicable local, state and federal codes and statutes in the electrical and refrigeration field.
