The information technology instructor is responsible for curriculum, teaching, service, scholarship, and related administrative activities that support the mission, vision, and values of the University.
Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators
1. Teaching and Learning
- Develop and teach 36 credit hours (12-month) of undergraduate and/or graduate courses or the equivalent as authorized by the assistant dean for the purpose of developing and demonstrating Lindenwood's Institutional Learning Outcomes, including broad, integrative, and specialized knowledge, essential habits of mind, communicative fluency, and effective problem-solving skills.
- Conduct all classes in accordance with an established, current, and compliant course syllabus, text(s), and/or related instructional material(s), submitted in accordance with established University guidelines.
- Supervise online laboratories, independent studies, tutorials, practicums, and internships.
- Focus on the talents, interests, and future of the student through instruction that includes but is not limited to clearly communicating learning intentions and how those intentions will be assessed; structuring courses in an organized way; providing time for reflection, discussion, and application of ideas or information; making learning engaging and interesting; ensuring appropriate rigor; using examples or illustrations to explain difficult points; encouraging students to question ideas or information; adjusting instruction if students experience difficulties in learning; helping students to understand the language and processes of the subject; helping students to think through and solve problems, either by themselves or together as a group; providing useful feedback on tests or completed assignments; using assessment results to provide extra help or extended learning opportunities.
- Ensure accessibility, copyright, and authentication compliance.
- Enforce the university's academic honesty standards.
- Participate in textbook adoption and review as appropriate. Use all materials required for a course sufficiently to justify student expense.
- Maintain student attendance, grade, and discipline records as required by the University and/or School.
- Establish an annual improvement goal directly related to teaching and learning.
- All full-time faculty and instructors teaching a full-time load are expected to post and keep appropriate number of office hours as determined by the school. These hours may be maintained online, via telephone, or Canvas Conferences.
- Respond to student concerns, questions, and requests for assistance within 24 hours, excluding Saturdays and Sundays and official University holidays and breaks. Where exceptions to this policy are unavoidable, such as in case of emergency or extended travel, the instructor should clearly communicate when students should expect to receive a response to their concerns, questions, and/or requests for assistance as well as email and phone number for an alternate contact.
- Participate in shared governance as requested.
- Participate in and develop efforts to recruit and retain students.
- Complete administrative tasks as requested by the assistant Dean, including but not limited to work associated with student attendance and grades, course schedules, academic catalogs, assessment, program reviews, recruiting, retention, performance evaluation, and accreditations.
- Exhibit interpersonal effectiveness with and respect for students, colleagues, and administrators by acting as a team player and coordinating work with colleagues.
- Maintain a high level of professional ethics.
- Support a safe and orderly environment.
- Work on complex projects using a collaborative model.
- Attend program/department, school/division, campus, and University faculty meetings (online), special professional development opportunities, , and other University events as requested by the administration and participation is possible remotely.
- Abide by and support the policies and guidelines presented in the Employee Guidebook, which represents the formal structure of University business operations and the behavioral norms endorsed and supported by the Lindenwood community.
- Establish an annual improvement goal related to service as appropriate.
3. Subject Matter Expertise and Scholarship
- Document subject matter expertise and efforts to remain current in their field(s), including a minimum of 24 hours of formal professional development per calendar year.
- Support Lindenwood's advancement as a leader in the scholarship of teaching and learning through study, research, and application of evidence-based educational practices.
- Provide updated resume/CV as requested by the assistant dean.
- Establish an annual improvement goal related to subject matter expertise and scholarship as appropriate.
Qualifications required for effective job performance. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.
- Master's degree with a major in the subject field to be taught, or a master's degree in a related field with 18 graduate credit hours in the subject field to be taught.
- Minimum of one year college level teaching experience.
- Proficient in programming languages of Java, Python, and C#.
- Advanced level knowledge across multiple operating systems and end-user applications.
- Advanced level knowledge of coding and program design in multiple languages and platforms.
- Demonstrated skill in teaching computer science concepts to students in various modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, online).

- Be willing to learn and apply any other new technology necessary to enhance learning.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Canvas (LMS), CAMS (SIS), Workday (EIS).
- Ability to use phones, fax machines, printers, scanners, and copiers.
Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
- General office and/or classroom conditions for on-campus faculty and instructors.
- Variable work environments as determined by online instructors; must have 24/7 access to a computer that meets minimum technical specifications, high-speed Internet access, and web camera.
