The Program Coordinator in the Office of Ethnic Programs & Services provides programs and services in the areas of community engagement, multicultural education, leadership and identity development. The person is knowledgeable of the histories as well as cultural and developmental issues of Black, Asian, Latinx, Native American/Indigenous, and multi-racial/multi-ethnic communities. The Program Coordinator will implement programs for the Darwin T. Turner Scholars Program. In addition, they will advise student organizations as well as design and support experiential trainings. The Program Coordinator collaborates with Student Affairs units, academic departments, and other university units as well as community and alumni organizations when appropriate.
- Plans, develops, and coordinates programs for the Darwin T. Turner Scholars Program, facilitate workshops, coordinating co-sponsored programming with student organizations, academic departments and other campus units surrounding identity and cultural.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with university departments, faculty, staff, and students to improve student success.
- Identify and use assessment tools to generate data to evaluate the effectiveness student programs and services, and learning outcomes through regular qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.
- Research and analyze relevant literature, other benchmark information in order to develop grant proposals, new program ideas and propose program changes.
- Prepare budget requests and program proposals.
- Support, attend, and participate in campus activities, meetings and programs, and serve on various committees, participate in evening and weekend activities.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with Student Affairs units, academic departments, and other university offices as well as community and alumni organizations that support the mission of EPS.
- Maintains the department's website.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate student assistants when necessary.
- Perform related duties based on departmental need.
Skills and Knowledge
- Experience working with students of diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentations.
- Experience coordinating student learning activities and programs.
- Experience advising and providing resources to students and/or student groups.
- Demonstrated willingness to work evening and weekend hours.
- Knowledge of racial identity development theories, multicultural organizational theories and intercultural communication theories.
- Candidate must demonstrate strong problem solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems as well as devise solutions.
- The ability to problem-solve complex issues affecting college student development is strongly preferred.
- Must also have a strong focus on attention to detail.
- Strong project management skills are essential.
- Bachelor's degree with one (1) year experience; -OR- Associate's degree with three (3) years experience; -OR- five (5) years experience. Experience must be in program coordination.
- Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or Social Work.
- Two years demonstrated professional experience, and knowledge of current diverse student populations and concerns in higher education of the diverse students.
- Seeking a multicultural competent practitioner with strong organizational, planning and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to build relationships across cultures with faculty/staff students, parents, and community members.
This position will be a professional position paid at an hourly rate.
