DEPARTMENT: Division of Veterinary Services





PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide support via gathering, assembling, autoclaving, routine sanitization of equipment, repairing and/or distributing equipment and supplies. This is in direct support of laboratory animal husbandry areas for the Veterinary Services Division of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children, and adolescents.

  • Cage setup
Provide animal cages setup with appropriate food, bedding, and enrichment. Set-up supporting supplies and equipment for animal cages such as (but not limited to) water bottles, cage cards, towels, enrichment devices and other needs per special request. Concentrate on maintaining efficiency when interrupted or switching between tasks.
  • Policy/Procedures
Understands, adhere and maintain work areas in compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations, AAALAC guidelines, divisional standards and established standard operation procedures. Follow safety procedures as outlined in standard operations procedures and request help if work deviates from routine. Maintain per diem sheets, daily log and other records as required. Identify and report emergency situations or problems as needed. Responsible for making routine decisions within limits prescribed by established policies or by area supervisor; perform duties at the desired level of competency. Work overtime, weekends and or holidays as scheduled.Respect patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as described by CCHMC's mission and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Continuing Education
Attend as required Vet Services continuing education programs, CCHMC training session, including, laboratory safety, bloodborne pathogens, and OSHA. Comply with infectious control policies and procedures. Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature, and seminars. Implement this knowledge into the Veterinary Services Division. Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas of approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions.
  • Customer Service
Provide services in a manner to be regularly and conveniently available to meet the needs; ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment.
  • Other duties
Perform other duties as assigned through detailed instructions from Veterinary Services management staff.
