Job Description

Title of Position: Policy & Planning Intern FLSA Status: Non Exempt

Department: Policy and Planning

Reports to: Director, Research and Evaluation


Positions reporting to this position: None

Purpose of the Position:

Reporting directly to the Director, Research and Evaluation, the Intern will work on a range of data collection and analysis efforts. The Intern will work closely with the Director, Government Proposals & Policy Projects to monitor and support advocacy efforts related to homelessness and affordable housing policy reform. The ideal candidate will be an undergraduate or graduate student who is interested in public policy and data analysis, has keen attention to detail and analytical skills, and is excited about working with a homelessness services organization. This is a paid internship and college credit is available, if your school permits.


Responsibilities:

Assist the Research and Evaluation team on tasks, including:

  • Data entry and data collection, including on-site client survey administration;
  • Data analysis and creation of written and graphic representations of data;
  • Focus group transcription;
  • Drafting and editing of data reports;
  • Supporting data-driven learning through monthly metrics meetings with frontline staff.

Assist the Policy team with tasks, including:

  • Literature reviews;
  • Policy and data analysis for policy initiatives;
  • Drafting and editing policy reports.

Essential Functions:

  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout all boroughs by public transportation

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Win's Mission;
  • Matriculated student in an accredited college or university with a major in sociology, urban planning, public policy, government, political science, geography, statistics, or another related field;
  • Detailed oriented and organized;
  • Strong analytical and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate tasks across multiple departments;
  • Must be available to work a 20 hours per week;
  • Occasional travel to Win sites in all five boroughs of New York City.
