NUNM's School of Graduate Studies is seeking Clinical Supervisor Substitutes to fill in on an as needed basis for the Master of Science in Integrative Mental Health program clinical faculty who are not able to attend a shift due to vacation and/or sick leave. The Clinical Supervisor Substitute performs clinical duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission, policies, and procedures of the University and appropriate to the individual assignment. Given the unique nature of the MSiMH shift, the Clinical Supervisor works closely with a co-supervisor who has a background in mental health and counseling. Students enrolled in the MSiMH program are pursuing either their ND or LAc. Due to this, the Clinical Supervisor must be licensed as both and ND and LAc. Available substitute shifts are announced via email by the Program Chair, Integrative Mental Health. Phone calls are made to individual clinical supervisors to fill shifts with less than 48 hours of notice.

Clinical shifts specialize in mental health concerns and provide students an opportunity to integrate and apply skills in assessment, active listening, psychotherapeutic processing, psychopharmacology, cultural competence, case conceptualization and documentation, and self-evaluation; honing their skills as integrative mental healthcare practitioners. Format: clinical rotation; students see patients as student practitioners and are overseen by an attending clinician and co-supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Education Duties:
- Comply with all applicable standards, rules, regulations, and laws applicable to clinical practice whether established by NUNM, the State of Oregon, or other governmental or regulatory body.
- Practice in a manner consistent with established standards and expectations of the profession and the community.
- Practice in a manner which models best practices in clinical practice and in the business of medicine.
- Manage a diverse population of students in clinical and other learning environments.
- Clinical faculty members are required to comply with professional continuing education requirements of their license.
Professional Development Duties:
- Maintain current credentials and content expertise.
- Maintain an awareness of new instructional technology and advances in teaching and learning theory and practice, with particular to attention to medical education, clinical education, and adult learning.
- Maintain an awareness of new developments in the practice of natural medicine and/or other areas of content expertise as appropriate.
- Acquire new knowledge and skills for enhancing and developing instructional programs.
- Acquire new knowledge and skills for the practice of natural medicine and/or other areas of content expertise as appropriate.
- Participate in formative and summative evaluation processes to insure excellence and continuous improvement as an educator and clinician.
- Master's degree (i.e. MS, MA, etc. or other appropriate terminal degree in Chinese medicine; or an international equivalent as determined by the Faculty Development Committee or as established by the appropriate accrediting body, if applicable) and an active Oregon L.Ac. license.
- Doctoral degree in Naturopathic Medicine and active Oregon ND license.
- Five (5) or more years of relevant successful full-time clinical practice.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Clinical Supervisor in an academic educational setting.
- One (1) or more years of full-time experience as a faculty member in higher education. Other relevant professional experience may be considered.
- Doctoral degrees in an area related to curriculum content at the School of Classical Chinese Medicine and Naturopathic Medicine.
Must also possess the following:
- A strong drive to serve the University and the natural medicine professions.
- Familiarity with NUNM policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of current trends in pedagogy.
- Knowledge of curriculum and program development.
- Knowledge of instructional discipline to a depth and breadth appropriate to the assignment.
- Skill in instructing socioeconomically, educationally, and culturally diverse students.
- Skill in using technology to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, and the community at large.
- Skill in working both independently and as a team member.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective, collaborative, and collegial relationships with colleagues, students, staff, administrators, alumni, and the public.
- Must have an interest and ability in working collaboratively with the mental health supervisor on shift.
