SUMMARYAssists the Materials & Processes Manager and R&D Surface Treatment Engineer as assigned, with research, development, testing, and proper design of all surface treatments.
The R&D Surface Treatment Engineer Intern works closely with the Materials & Processes Manager and R&D Surface Treatment Engineer. Under general direction on assigned projects, primary function is to provide support the LISI Aerospace US R&D Team regarding all aspects of surface treatment related to aerospace fasteners. This encompasses formulation, evaluations and selection of lubrication, plating and coating products, but also surface preparation and thermal treatments. The R&D Surface Treatment Engineer Intern contributes engineering principles to assuring the finished product meets all end user requirements for the products in development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist in pilot plant activities for new product testing.
Assists and interfaces with production, testing laboratory and design staff with actions related to evaluation, selection, specification and validation of new or existing products. This includes activities such as coating evaluation studies (health and safety analysis, regulatory compliance), physical, environmental and mechanical testing (Chemical analysis, static or dynamic tests, embrittlement, friction evaluations, electrical properties, adhesion), environmental testing (Temperature, corrosion, fluid resistance..). All these activities to be conducted in a documented manner, based on verified results and analysis and providing clear reporting to team and management at all levels.
As a member of a project team, assist with actions related to evaluation, selection, specification and technical validation of surface related processes. This includes surface preparation, cleaning, plating and coating processes, and secondary lubrication selection and specification for prototypes and products in development, industrialization or manufacturing phases.
Evaluate advanced surface treatment solutions that would bring best technical or economical performance to company fastener core business.
Develops generic test methodic and test plans for surface treatment and processes evaluations / validations in coordination with other LISI AEROSPACE entities so as to build common procedures and data bases. Define and develop dedicated product validation test plan to assess mechanical, physical and functional performances of new products for validation of design and manufacturing processes. Ensure data analysis and proper results and conclusions record in documented test reports.
Participate with R&D Laboratory, maintaining and operation of R&D Lab equipment and software.
Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
Required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management's attention immediately.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education and/or Experience
Senior status towards Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry or related disciplines is required
Basic knowledge of Metallurgy is required
Manufacturing process knowledge related to metal finishing processes such as cleaning, sand blasting, chemical preparation, plating, painting, and lubrication are desired.
Knowledge of Aircraft or Fasteners Coatings would be a plus. .
Working knowledge of relevant engineering applications, technical reading and writing;
Verbal and written communication skills in English with practical reasoning abilities are a must. Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from R&D US Team. Competency in French is a plus.
Working knowledge of statistics and advance levels of calculus/differentials equations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet, Presentation, Project Planning and Word Processing software.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
