    Duties

    Summary

    Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Air and Marine Operations.

    • Conducts maritime patrols and interdictions at sea, on lakes, and rivers to prevent the illegal entry of weapons of terror
    • Conducts interdiction operations against national security threats to include, illegal drugs and undocumented alien smuggling
    • Conduct joint investigations related to border security in the maritime environment

    Responsibilities

    **Newly appointed MIAs that Enter on Duty (EOD) in a Caribbean Air and Marine Branch (CAMB) duty locations have been authorized to receive a 25% Recruitment Incentive (RI) in-addition to, Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) and overtime pay.

    A Marine Interdiction Agent (MIA) may be eligible for overtime pay (up to an additional 25% of salary). Marine Interdiction Agents (MIA) may also have a higher starting salary based on their duty location.

    This is a Direct Hire Public Notice. Category Rating, Veterans Preference and traditional rating and ranking do not apply to this Public Notice. This notice may be used to fill any vacancy throughout the Southeast Region, Southwest Region and CAMB Duty Locations. In-order to meet agency mission-critical needs, your final duty location offer may include one of the duty locations within the Southeast, Southwest and CAMB.

    This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression of GL-9, GS-11 & 12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in each grade level (with supervisor approval). For example you could:
    Start as an MIA in November 2018 as a GL-9 Step 1 (RUS pay $52,285) - (RUS + 25% LEAP $63,615) - (RUS + LEAP + RI $74,945) per year*
    Promote in November 2019 as a GS-11 Step 1 (RUS pay $61,218) - (RUS + 25% LEAP $74,484) - (RUS + LEAP + RI $87,750) per year*
    Promote in November 2020 to GS-12 Step 1 (RUS pay $73,375) - (RUS + 25% LEAP $89,275) - (RUS + LEAP + RI $105,175) per year*

    • Please note this example includes a range of min. locality pay 'Rest of the United States' (RUS) up to max. potential salary with LEAP and the RI for CAMB locations. Pay rates are based on the 2018 "Rest of the United States" salary table and does not take into consideration higher locality pay, possible over time, or where applicable or yearly cost of living increases.
