Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION/STATEMENT: A Speech/Language Pathologist works with the full range of human communication and its disorders, the speech-language pathologist:

Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders.

Treat speech, language, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in individuals of all ages, from infants to the elderly.

In addition, the speech-language pathologist:

  • Prepare future professionals.
  • Engage in research to enhance knowledge about human communication processes.
  • Develop new methods and equipment to evaluate problems.
  • Establish more effective treatments.
  • Investigate behavioral patterns associated with communication disorders.

The TAMC Speech-language pathologist often works as part of a team, which may include teachers, physicians, audiologists, psychologists, social workers, rehabilitation counselors and others.


1. Assesses patient's functional deficits, plans treatment and implements treatment in an appropriate manner in compliance with standards of professional practice.
