Essential Functions
Burn crew members will assist The Nature Conservancy in Maine and New Hampshire with;
Fire effects monitoring and data collection
Burn unit and fire break preparations, includes clearing downed debris, running brush cutters and leaf blowers, etc
Burn day logistics, includes setting up fire engines, pumps, hose lays, firing devices, etc
Active participant on prescribed fires
Mop-up of prescribed fire area
Organize and maintenance of tools and equipment
Interacting with volunteers and partners
Responsibilities and Scope

May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrine, and under physically demanding circumstances
Requires long hours in isolated settings
Is flexible with work schedule including a willingness to work extended hours on any given day, overnight and weekends
Must be able to meet physical fitness test requirements (hike with 45lbs, 3 miles in 45 minutes) to participate on prescribed fires, federal standard guidelines

Location Description
Ossipee, NH-Pitch Pine scrub oak barrens, south of Mt Washington Valley
Well, ME- blueberry barrens, near coast
Training Provided
Interns will be given S-130/ 190 Basic Wildland Fire Training, Federal standard training for participating on wildland fire across the country.
Intern will also gain knowledge in small engines, data collection and GIS
Educational/Recreational Opportunities
Interns will have ample time to network with TNC employees and people in related field. Interns will gain a great deal of skills and knowledge in the field daily.
Interns have endless recreational opportunities between the White MTN to the Maine coast
