Job Description The District 19 Regional School Board of Education in Storrs, Connecticut is currently searching for its next Superintendent.
Comprised of an award-winning, nationally recognized high school and two non-traditional high school programs (agricultural science and the depot campus), District 19 serves the towns of Ashford, Mansfield, and Willington and also enrolls students from several surrounding communities.
The unique nature of District 19 will give the new Superintendent the opportunity to collaborate with a talented and dedicated school administration and the Board of Education. The successful candidate will be an experienced educator and strong communicator with experience managing the demands of an involved community and collaborating with experienced educators. The new superintendent will engage the community as the school takes its next steps.
The Board of Education is looking for someone who appreciates collaboration, who is innovative, and has an understanding of and appreciation for the complexity and nuances of a regional school district. The candidate should be a natural leader whose goal-oriented drive serves as an example to students, educators and parents alike. The new Superintendent will lead by example, motivating through team building and employee input. The candidate will set high expectations, for themselves and district employees, providing the tools and encouragement needed to reach them together. We are looking for someone with a deep appreciation for classroom teachers, someone who has secondary leadership experience, and recognizes the unique nature of this educational community. This position requires an effective communicator who is comfortable with being a public figure.
The candidate should have a strong understanding of fiscal and policy issues as well as the Connecticut educational system and the challenges it presents.
